Safeguarding & Online Safety Statement

Last updated: 19th June 2026

BloomStone Tutors is committed to providing safe, professional online tuition for children.

This statement explains how BloomStone supports safeguarding and online safety during enquiries, communication, online lessons and ongoing tuition.

1. Safeguarding commitment

BloomStone works with children aged 7–11, so safeguarding is treated as a core responsibility.

BloomStone aims to provide tuition that is professional, appropriate and carefully managed. Children should feel safe, respected and able to learn in an online environment that supports their wellbeing as well as their academic progress.

Any concern about a child’s safety or wellbeing will be taken seriously.

2. Checks and training

BloomStone tuition is provided by an Enhanced DBS checked and safeguarding-trained tutor.

At launch, tuition is delivered by founder Ben Smith. If BloomStone works with additional tutors in future, they will be required to complete appropriate safer-recruitment checks and safeguarding training before teaching children.

BloomStone will review safeguarding arrangements regularly and update this statement where needed.

3. Approved communication channels

All parent communication should take place through agreed adult communication channels, such as email or an agreed parent messaging channel.

BloomStone does not communicate privately with children outside agreed lesson arrangements.

Children should not contact BloomStone through personal social media, private phone numbers, personal email addresses or informal communication channels. Parents should also avoid sharing a child’s personal contact details unless this has been specifically agreed and is necessary for lesson access.

Key arrangements, including lesson times, payment, cancellations, lesson access and progress updates, should be confirmed with a parent or guardian.

4. Online lesson environment

Lessons should take place in a quiet, appropriate and safe learning environment.

Children should usually attend lessons with:

  • a suitable device

  • stable internet connection

  • working audio and video

  • access to the lesson link

  • a quiet place to learn

  • any materials requested for the lesson

Students are expected to have working audio and video during online lessons unless otherwise agreed. This supports lesson quality, participation and safe online practice.

The child’s visible learning space should be appropriate for tuition. Inappropriate images, videos, audio, language or visible material should not be present during lessons.

5. Parent or trusted adult role

For younger children, a parent or trusted adult should be nearby at the start of the lesson to help with setup, focus or any technical issues if needed.

Adults do not need to support the lesson content, as teaching is directed to the child by the BloomStone tutor.

Parents may observe lessons where appropriate, but should not interrupt, answer on behalf of the child or participate in the lesson unless requested by BloomStone. This helps the tutor understand the child’s independent English and provide the most appropriate support.

If a child feels uncomfortable during a lesson, they should be able to pause, speak to a trusted adult or end the session where needed.

6. Lesson platforms and technology

Lessons usually take place through LearnCube. Zoom may be used as a backup where needed.

BloomStone provides lesson access information and setup guidance before tuition begins.

Parents are responsible for ensuring that the child can access the online lesson platform and has suitable technology. Where a lesson is disrupted by parent-side or student-side technical issues, the lesson may still be charged according to BloomStone’s Terms & Conditions.

Where a lesson cannot take place because of a BloomStone-side or platform-side issue, the lesson will be rearranged or the lesson credit will remain available.

7. Recording lessons

BloomStone does not routinely record lessons.

Parents, students and tutors must not record lessons without prior written agreement from BloomStone.

Any recording would only take place where there is a clear reason, with prior agreement and in line with BloomStone’s safeguarding and privacy procedures.

Where recording is agreed, BloomStone will confirm why the recording is needed, how it will be used, who can access it and how long it will be kept.

8. Appropriate conduct

BloomStone expects respectful, appropriate behaviour from students, parents and tutors.

Students are expected to:

  • attend lessons on time

  • take part appropriately

  • use respectful language

  • keep audio and video working where possible

  • engage with lesson tasks

  • avoid inappropriate comments, images, links, recordings or behaviour

Parents are expected to communicate respectfully with BloomStone.

Repeated refusal to participate, disruptive behaviour, inappropriate language or behaviour, repeated unexplained absence, persistent camera or microphone refusal without good reason, or abusive communication may lead to tuition being reviewed, paused or ended.

9. Confidentiality and safeguarding limits

BloomStone handles lesson information carefully and does not share parent or child information unnecessarily.

However, confidentiality cannot be guaranteed where there is a concern that a child may be at risk of harm.

If BloomStone believes that a child may be at risk, information may need to be shared with a parent, safeguarding professional, local authority, emergency service or other relevant organisation. This will be handled with care and only where BloomStone believes it is necessary and appropriate.

BloomStone will not promise a child that safeguarding information can be kept secret if sharing that information may be needed to help keep the child or another person safe.

10. Reporting a safeguarding concern

If you have a safeguarding or online-safety concern relating to BloomStone tuition, please contact BloomStone as soon as possible.

Safeguarding lead: Benjamin Smith
Safeguarding contact:hello@bloomstonetutors.com

Please include only the information needed to explain the concern clearly.

If there is an immediate risk of harm, parents should contact the relevant local emergency service, child protection service or safeguarding authority without delay.

Safeguarding concerns will be treated separately from ordinary service complaints. Where appropriate, BloomStone may seek advice from relevant safeguarding or legal professionals.

11. Privacy and data protection

Safeguarding information and child-related information are handled according to BloomStone’s Privacy & Cookie Notice.

BloomStone collects and uses parent and child information only where it is needed to manage enquiries, provide tuition, communicate with parents, review progress, meet legal responsibilities or respond to safeguarding concerns.

BloomStone does not sell parent or child personal information.

12. Review of this statement

This Safeguarding & Online Safety Statement will be reviewed regularly and updated where needed.

BloomStone may update this statement if there are changes to tuition arrangements, online platforms, safeguarding guidance, legal requirements or business operations.
