Online Lesson & Technology Expectations

Last updated: 20th June 2026

BloomStone lessons are delivered online. This policy explains what is needed for lessons to run smoothly, safely and professionally.

This section should be read alongside BloomStone’s Terms & Conditions, Safeguarding & Online Safety Statement, and Cancellation & Rescheduling Summary.

1. Online lesson platform

BloomStone lessons usually take place through LearnCube, an online teaching platform designed for one-to-one learning.

Zoom may be used as a backup where needed.

A lesson access link and setup guidance will be provided before tuition begins.

2. What your child needs

Parents are responsible for ensuring that their child has:

  • a suitable device

  • stable internet connection

  • working audio and video

  • access to the lesson link

  • a quiet and appropriate place to learn

  • any materials requested for the lesson

A laptop or desktop computer is usually recommended for the best lesson experience. A tablet may be suitable in some cases, depending on the child’s age, lesson focus and how they are expected to read, write or interact during the session.

3. Audio and video

Students are expected to have working audio and video during online lessons unless otherwise agreed.

This supports lesson quality, participation and safe online practice. It also helps the tutor observe how the child is responding, explaining and working through tasks.

If there is a reason your child may need a different arrangement, please discuss this with BloomStone before lessons begin.

4. Lesson environment

Lessons should take place in a quiet, appropriate and safe learning environment.

The child should be able to focus without unnecessary interruption. The visible learning space should be suitable for online tuition, and inappropriate images, videos, audio, language or visible material should not be present during lessons.

5. Parent or trusted adult support

For younger children, a parent or trusted adult should be nearby at the start of the lesson to help with setup, focus or any technical issues if needed.

Adults do not need to support the lesson content, as teaching is directed to the child by the BloomStone tutor.

Parents may observe lessons where appropriate, but should not interrupt, answer on behalf of the child or participate in the lesson unless requested by BloomStone. This helps the tutor understand the child’s independent English and plan the most appropriate support.

6. Setup before the first lesson

Before the first lesson, parents should check that:

  • the lesson link opens correctly

  • audio and video are working

  • the child can access the platform

  • the internet connection is stable

  • the child knows where to sit and what to expect

  • any requested materials are ready

BloomStone will provide setup guidance before tuition begins, but parents remain responsible for ensuring that the child can access the lesson from their side.

7. Parent-side or student-side technical issues

If a lesson is disrupted or missed because of parent-side or student-side technical issues, the lesson may still be charged where BloomStone was available and the correct access details had been provided.

This may include:

  • internet failure

  • device problems

  • microphone or camera issues

  • inability to access the platform

  • forgotten lesson times

  • unsuitable lesson setup

  • the child being unable or unwilling to use the required technology

BloomStone may use discretion in exceptional circumstances, but parent-side or student-side technical issues are not automatically rescheduled or refunded.

8. BloomStone-side or platform-side technical issues

If a lesson cannot take place because of a BloomStone-side issue or a platform-side issue, the lesson will be rearranged or the lesson credit will remain available.

BloomStone will communicate with parents as soon as reasonably possible and arrange an appropriate next step.

9. Appropriate online conduct

Students are expected to use the online lesson space appropriately.

This includes:

  • using respectful language

  • engaging with lesson tasks

  • keeping audio and video working where possible

  • using chat, screen tools or shared documents appropriately

  • avoiding inappropriate comments, images, links, recordings or behaviour

Repeated refusal to participate, persistent camera or microphone refusal without good reason, inappropriate conduct or repeated disruption may lead to tuition being reviewed, paused or ended.

10. Recording lessons

BloomStone does not routinely record lessons.

Parents, students and tutors must not record lessons without prior written agreement from BloomStone.

Any recording would only take place where there is a clear reason, with prior agreement and in line with BloomStone’s safeguarding and privacy procedures.

Where recording is agreed, BloomStone will confirm why the recording is needed, how it will be used, who can access it and how long it will be kept.

11. Online safety concerns

Any online safety concern relating to BloomStone tuition should be reported to BloomStone as soon as possible.

This may include concerns about inappropriate communication, behaviour, images, links, recording, lesson access or anything that makes the child feel unsafe or uncomfortable.

Safeguarding and online safety concerns will be handled according to BloomStone’s Safeguarding & Online Safety Statement.

12. Privacy and data protection

Information collected or used during online tuition is handled according to BloomStone’s Privacy & Cookie Notice.

BloomStone does not sell parent or child personal information.

Parents should not share sensitive information during lessons unless it is relevant to safe and effective tuition and they are comfortable sharing it with BloomStone.
